Convert Video to WMV format
ConvertToWMV is a free Windows application that converts almost any video file to
Microsoft's Windows Media Video (WMV) format. ConvertToWMV provides an intuitive
and easy to use graphical user interface for communicating with video processing
command line tool
FFmpeg. FFmpeg is a
free computer program developed by Fabrice Bellard
that can record, convert and stream digital audio and video in numerous formats,
and is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License or GNU
General Public License.
NOTE: When you install ConvertToWMV on your PC, the binary program ffmpeg.exe together
with the source code used to compile and build ffmpeg.exe are copied into the ConvertToWMV
installation directory. License text and version information for ffmpeg can be
found in file ffmpeg-18639-gpl-static-win32.7z. Please visit FFmpeg's web site

Getting started
- Download the .msi installer file to your pc. Open the .msi file and follow the
on-screen installation instructions to install ConvertToWMV.
- The installer creates a shortcut to ConvertToWMV on your desktop. To run ConvertToWMV double click on
the shortcut icon.
Using ConvertToWMV
- Running ConvertToWMV will display a window similar to the one shown above.
- To convert a video file, either press the Import button to locate a video file or drag a video
file onto the ConvertToWMV application window.
- Processing of a video file is performed by FFmpeg which displays it's progress in a black command window.
Conversion of a video file may take several minutes
to complete depending on the size of the video being converted.
- When video conversion has finished, the black command window will automatically disappear and details of the converted video displayed in the "Conversion output" window.
- To view a converted video, simply double click on the video file name in the "Conversion output" window.
A popup media player window will start playing the converted video.
- To view more options for the "Conversion output" window, right mouse click to display a popup menu.
- The "Conversion output" window allows converted video files and jpeg files to be dragged to a destination window or application.
Creating a jpeg still frame
Ticking the "Output jpeg frame" checkbox will result in a video frame being captured from the video as a jpeg image. The jpeg image is listed in the
"Conversion output" window and can be viewed by double clicking on the file name. The video frame is captured by default at the 1 second position. This
time position can be changed by editing ConvertToWMV.exe.config
Changing the output video size and bitrate
By default the converted WMV video has the same bitrate and video frame size as the input video. The bitrate
and video frame size of the converted video can be altered by selecting from the dropdown list boxes.
